You may camp at either of two campgrounds: Blackwoods, located on Route 3 five miles south of Bar Harbor; or Seawall, located on Route 102A four miles south of Southwest Harbor. All park campsites are situated in woods, within a 10 minute walk of the ocean. One vehicle, 6 people, and 2 small tents or one large tent are allowed at a campsite. Designated campsites accommodate trailers up to 35 feet. Neither campground has utility hook-ups. From early spring to late fall, the campgrounds provide comfort stations, cold running water, dump station, picnic tables, fire rings and water faucets. Showers and a camping supply store are within 1/2 mile of both campgrounds. Blackwoods remains open during the off season. Facilities are limited to picnic tables, fire rings, pit toilets, and a hand pump for drinking water.
If you wish to camp at Blackwoods Campground from June 15-September 15, you may make your reservation through the Mistix/Destinet reservation system no earlier than 56 days before the date you wish to camp. For telephone reservations (US & Canada) call (between 7 AM and 6 PM Pacific Time) 1-800-365-2267(voice) or 1-800-274-7275(TDD). Other countries call 1-619-452-8787. VISA, MasterCard and Discover are accepted. Reservations may also be made by writing to: Mistix/Destinet, 9450 Carroll Park Drive, San Diego, CA 92121-2256. Include dates, number of people, type of camping equipment, and enclose payment. When making a reservation, you are simply securing a space in the campground; it's impossible to reserve a specific site or adjoining sites. During the reservation period, Blackwoods campsites cost $14 per night per site. From mid-May to mid-June and from mid-September to mid-October, Blackwoods campsites cost $12. Fees vary during the off-season.
Seawall Campground, open only from late May until late September, operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Drive-up campsites at Seawall cost $12 per night and walk-in campsites cost $8 per night. During late July and August, plan to arrive at Seawall early in the morning. There is a great demand for campsites and a line forms each morning. As campers check out, others from the waiting line are assigned available sites. Station hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
At Blackwoods and Seawall, five group campsites accommodate 15-20 campers per site. Group campsites, used only by educational organizations or other formally organized groups, are reserved through the Park -- not Destinet. Write to the Park after January 1 for group camping reservation form. Return the completed application on or after March 15. Group campsites contain 2-3 fireplaces, picnic tables, and a nearby restroom with cold running water and flush tiolets. Rates are $25 per night per site.
Camping fees are subject to change. Camping fees and entrance fees are separate charges.
Pets are allowed, but must be on a leash at all times and may not be left unattended.
All camping must be done in established campgrounds. Overnight backpacking is prohibited because the park is small and fragile. If you wish to camp at one of the twelve nearby private campgrounds, please see section titled Other Accommodations for the addresses of local Chamber of Commerce.
